Choosing a Countertop That’s Best for You

Whether you’re remodeling your kitchen, giving your bathroom a new look, or designing your dream basement, choosing a countertop is one of the most impactful design decisions you will make!

Granite 2

Granite

The classic choice for countertops, granite is heat-proof, scratch & stain-resistant, and has many options. Granite requires sealing, so insist on a high-quality sealer that won’t need to be reapplied as often. Depending on the granite choosen, it may chip around the edges or have spots prone to breakage if not properly supported underneath.

Quartzite

Quartzite

Quartzite is a natural stone that can have unique veining and beautiful coloring. It is durable and has
heat resistance. Quartzite is porous, so it may stain if regular sealing is not maintained. Because it is so hard, it takes longer to mine and is often harder to fabricate, which makes it more expensive. If you’re looking for a show stopping countertop that is unique to you, quartzite would be a great choice!

Butcher block and engineered quartz

Butcher Block

A budget-friendly alternative to stone, butcher block offers a beautiful countertop that brings warmth to a design. However, it requires a lot of upkeep, including monthly sealings, and is sensitive to water, heat, and scratches. But you can sand it down and restain it as needed, so it easily look new again.

Soapstone

Unlike many other natural countertops, soapstone is nonporous, so it doesn’t stain easily. It’s also heat-resistant and doesn’t need sealing. It does require regular oilings, and because it is softer, it scratches and chips easily. There are also fewer color options, but if you like the look of it, it is a beautiful choice!

Engineered Quartz 2

Engineered Quartz

Composed of about 90% crushed granite and 10% pigments and resins, this man-made material is a popular option for countertops. Hundreds of colors and patterns are available, and it’s very sturdy. However, it is not heat-proof. But it has a wide range of budget friendly and luxury options for you to find exactly what you’re looking for!

Remember, there is no right or wrong when choosing a material, but there may be one that is a better fit for you over another!
